Allie's big project for the weekend was to dress up as Hayden Panettiere, the cheerleader from the ABC t.v. series HEROES, and troll the convention looking for heroes to save her (or bad guys to be saved from). She wanted to meet the cast, who were at the convention promoting season 2, but unfortunately it was not to be. Alas, all is well though - she was able to befriend many heroes and villains and met James Kyson Lee (Ando from HEROES) and artists Tim Sale (famous for painting the Isaac paintings in the show). Tim was so impressed by her costume (designed by Cheralyn Lambeth) that he did a custom ink and watercolor of her as the cheerleader! WOW!
Allie gets the star treatment with her very own dressing room and stylist. Thanks, Toni!
Allie Johnson as Hayden's double
Welcome to Comic-Con 2007! Allie is on the search for who can help save the cheerleader...
One of the 501st Legion Officers reveals his own Hero angle. His shirt reads "Save the Princess, Save the Galaxy". Too funny.
At last! An authentic HEROES Hero! No, not HIRO, it's Ando! James Kyson Lee was cool enough to get a picture with Allie and compliment her on her costume.
Artist Tim Sale, known for his stunning work in print, is also the one who did all the paintings and illustrations in the HEROES series. He was the one who did Isaac's futuristic paintings. We were introduced to him courtesy of fellow artist Allison Sohn. Tim said he was very impressed with Allie's costume and promised he'd do a watercolor inspired by her.
They even had a Heroes booth at Comic Con. Of course we had to visit. There they had many of Isaac's paintings on display including the apocalypse mural on the floor. We got a better shot of that one morning when we used our exhibitor badges to get in before the crowds invaded. We thought the cheerleaders were completely lame, until they told us that THAT was the costume Hayden would be wearing for Season Two. You heard it here first! :)
More costumed heroes lend a hand...
LOOK OUT!!! David, Mary Franklin's assistant at the Star Wars booth, turns out to be none other than Sylar himself! Uncanny resemblance, or is David out to carve up Allie's brain? Hmmm....
Last few minutes of the show, we risk missing our plane so we can visit Tim Sale one more time. As good as his promise, he had Allie's watercolor ready to go. One of a kind - incredible! 'Tim Sale is our winner for Who Saved the Cheerleader' at Comic Con! (and just in the nick of time, like any good hero!)
