Sins of the Jedi shoot: Wilmington, NC July 2001
I got an email from a guy named Tony Collucci out of Wilmington, NC saying he needed stormtroopers for a fan film he was trying to shoot. I figured what the heck, this sounds cool. I was joined by David Finleyson of Spartanburg, SC and Scott Black from somewhere in North Carolina. It was a hot weekend, but very rewarding. I made a new best friend in Dave and we had a good time with the half-dozen or so stunt guys who were playing stormtrooper for the first time. Tony and his crew were very gracious to us and made us feel very appreciated. It was also cool meeting Sean O'Rourke who played the lead character and Rick Stough who served as prop master. The weekend was shot on the set of the recently wrapped film 'Black Knight' starring Martin Lawrence. Just a week before this beautiful castle was to be torn down, we were privileged to play stormtrooper games within its expertly crafted walls and climb its ramparts. Very cool.

A year later Tony wanted more shots for more scenes for his movie. By now the Legion was strong enough that volunteers could be mustered from all over. So troopers came in from all over North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia. A three day weekend of fun and explosives ensued as we died over and over and over. The closest I ever felt to being a stormtrooper came while filming the group attack scene. A dozen or more of us marched down a grassy slope while explosive charges went off all around us. Bodies tumbled to the ground on cue. I was instructed to step coldly over the body of a fellow trooper as we advanced. I am proud to this day that I was able to step over the stunt guy every time without hitting him - something difficult to do with a helmet's visibility.
